What is MHMS?

MHMS (Meta Horizon Managed Services) is Meta’s Enterprise MDM service, replacing the previous Quest for Business. Every Enterprise Meta Quest 3(S) that is now purchased comes with 2 years of free MHMS and 3 years of limited business warranty.

When you purchase a new Enterprise Meta Quest 3(S), you receive these benefits upfront; however, if you already have a device, you still have the opportunity to activate MHMS on your current device for $180 per device per year. For educational organizations, Meta offers a special upgrade: with the 2 years of free MHMS, they have the option to upgrade to a lifetime/device-based license for an additional $100 per device.

Three options to use a Meta device with your custom app

MHMS
With Meta’s new MHMS MDM, you are able to load apps onto your dashboard and deploy them to headsets that you have enrolled in your organization’s MHMS environment.

Sideload
You can still use the traditional sideloading method, such as SideQuest, to sideload your own custom APKs. This method allows you to install apps on your devices without being bound to the Meta MDM; however, note that third-party MDMs are no longer supported via sideloading alone.

MHMS + ManageXR / ArborXR
Third-party MDMs are now available on Meta devices only through MHMS. In other words, the device must first be enrolled in MHMS in order to have access to third-party MDMs like ManageXR or ArborXR. This means that if you want to use either of these solutions, you will need both a license for the third-party MDM and an active MHMS subscription.

Regarding the use of current devices with third-party MDMs, you can continue to use your current Quest devices with ManageXR or ArborXR as they are. However, keep in mind that once you perform a factory reset on the device, you will no longer be able to enroll it in ManageXR/ArborXR without purchasing MHMS.

How to set up your MHMS environment

1 Register an account with MHMS using the provided link.

2 You will be supplied with an activation code; you must provide this code to your reseller before ordering the devices.

3 Your hardware distributor will enroll your devices in your MHMS environment.

4. Receive your devices, ready to go!
