Lumnio – Realwear Navigator 520 & Vuzix M4000
Lumnio is a digital platform that helps industrial companies capture and share expert knowledge using digital tools like augmented reality (AR), AI features, remote assistance, and smart digital work instructions. Developed by Pocket Virtuality, a Czech company specializing in building advanced AR solutions for industrial use since 2017, Lumnio enables technicians to follow step-by-step procedures, receive real-time remote support, and access visual guidance directly through AR glasses or tablets. This helps reduce downtime, improve training, and make complex maintenance tasks easier to perform. Backed by the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) since 2023, Lumnio benefits from deep expertise in high-demand manufacturing sectors. In 2024, the company expanded globally with the launch of Lumnio Inc. in the U.S. to bring its innovative solution to international markets.

The Challenge
Lumnio’s main goal is to address the loss of expert knowledge and the growing shortage of skilled maintenance technicians. Their challenge lies in helping industrial companies retain critical know-how, especially as experienced workers retire and fewer skilled professionals are available to replace them. In complex service or manufacturing environments, onboarding new staff is often slow and error-prone. To solve this, Lumnio developed a solution that transforms expert procedures into standardized, step-by-step digital workflows. Lumnio wanted these to be accessed directly on smart glasses or mobile devices, so workers get the guidance they need, right when and where they need it, even on the factory floor or in the field. This means high-quality guidance becomes instantly available, even in safety-critical or remote conditions, and significantly speeds up training and troubleshooting.
To achieve this, Lumnio needed a reliable hardware solution that could bring their digital workflows into the real world, especially in environments that are loud, complex, and sometimes hazardous. Their goal was to make it possible for technicians to follow detailed maintenance and service instructions hands-free. This meant finding a device that was not only comfortable to wear for long periods but also voice-controlled and fully compatible with personal protective equipment (PPE).
It was essential that the device could clearly display step-by-step instructions, allow users to take photos or videos for documentation, and function even in areas with limited internet access. The system also had to support remote video calls with experts when on-site help wasn’t available. Since not all workers have the same level of experience with digital tools, the solution needed to be intuitive and easy to use.
Lumnio also required strong multilingual support and smooth integration with their clients’ existing systems. Just as importantly, they needed a partner who could provide dependable hardware guidance, configuration, and responsive technical support, ensuring that deployments ran smoothly and users could get help whenever needed.
The solution
To address these needs, Lumnio partnered with VR Expert to identify and deploy the most suitable hardware for industrial fieldwork. VR Expert recommended the RealWear Navigator series: robust smart glasses that support hands-free operation, voice control, and are compatible with safety gear. Beyond simply supplying the devices, VR Expert provided expert consultation to help Lumnio match its software with the right hardware features. Each device was pre-configured to Lumnio’s specifications, allowing plug-and-play deployment with minimal setup needed on-site. Thanks to VR Expert’s fast and reliable delivery, Lumnio was able to roll out the solution quickly, even in high-demand sectors like rail and aerospace. VR Expert support didn’t stop at delivery: the VR Expert team remained available to fine-tune settings, answer technical questions, and ensure a smooth user experience from day one. This partnership enabled Lumnio to focus on scaling its platform, knowing the hardware setup was in expert hands.
To bring this system to life, Lumnio selected the RealWear Navigator 520 smart glasses as their main device, designed specifically for rugged environments where workers need their hands free. These headsets are voice-controlled, durable, and compatible with protective helmets and other protective gear, making them a natural fit for industries like rail, aerospace, and energy. For lighter or indoor tasks, Lumnio also adopted the Vuzix M4000 smart glasses, which offer a more compact form that is more comfortable. This modular approach means companies can match the right hardware to each specific use case, environment, and budget, without compromising safety or ease of use.
With this combined solution, technicians in the field can follow step-by-step digital instructions directly on their smart glasses. This is especially useful for preventive maintenance, repairs, or training new team members. If additional support is needed, the headset can connect workers to remote experts via live video, allowing them to solve problems together in real time. The system also automatically captures photos, videos, and time-stamped records, helping teams document their work more easily. České dráhy (Czech Railways) uses the solution to guide workers through detailed inspections on complex train systems, ensuring nothing is missed. Another Lumnio client, Complete CZ, reported a 7.8% boost in workforce efficiency after rolling out Lumnio, thanks to fewer errors and faster problem resolution. Whether it’s training, maintenance, or troubleshooting, the system helps teams work smarter, faster, and more safely.
