Product Information of Vuzix Blade 2

The Vuzix Blade 2 is a pair of lightweight AR smart glasses that is suited for work instructions, remote guidance and training. The Vuzix Blade 2 is the successor to the Vuzix Blade Upgraded and Vuzix Blade.

Pros

  • Best entry level smart glasses
  • Android 11
  • 8-megapixel camera with auto focus
  • Multiple control options

Cons

  • Not IP rated
  • Not suited to heavy industry

Vuzix Blade 2 has the following advantages:

Comfortable & Easy to use

First, the Vuzix Blade 2 is easy to wear, because of its lightweight sunglasses design. The Blade 2 features a built-in full-color waveguide display in the right lens. The display has a 480×480 resolution and due to the waveguide technology can be read and used even with direct sunlight on it. The Sunglass-like design with the built-in lens display on the Vuzix Blade 2 makes the device comfortable to use for extended periods of time without issues indoors and outdoors.

Second, the Vuzix Blade 2 is the best entry-level AR headset on the market. This is due to its lower price point and limited customization options, compared to the RealWear Navigator 500 and Vuzix M400. However, the lower price point does not mean it is equipped with inferior specifications and is able to perform some use cases just as effectively as its more expensive competitors. The low price point with the good specifications makes the Blade 2 the ideal choice for integrating smart glasses into your organization for the first time.

Camera & certification

Third, the Blade 2 has an autofocus 8-megapixel camera and is able to capture footage in 720p at 60fps or 1080p at 30fps with reasonable stabilization. The quality of the camera is similar to current-day smartphones. More than enough for remote experts to view and manage sessions with frontline workers in high enough quality on a large display. As a result, remote expertise and guidance can be effectively managed and undertaken with the Vuzix Blade 2.

Fourth, like its predecessor the Blade Upgraded, the Blade 2 is also ANSI Z87.1 certified, meaning it is able to withstand direct impacts against the lenses now making it better suited for industrial applications. The Vuzix 2 also has full UV protection making it well suited for outdoor applications.

Fifth, the Blade 2 OS has been upgraded to Android 11. This means the Blade 2 now supports a much wider range of enterprise-focused applications. It also allows for integration with modern MDMs making the management and security of the device much easier than previously.

Storage & control

Sixth, the Blade 2 has seen a big improvement over the Blade Upgraded smart glasses regarding integrated storage, going from 8GB to 40GB. Although it is not a huge quantity of space, it is enough to hold a number of applications including enough video footage. The increased storage capacity also means fewer dependencies on external SD cards which are a security risk and can easily be lost.

Furthermore, the Blade 2 is now equipped with 5GHz bandwidth (Wi-Fi) capabilities. The 5GHz upgrade means increased channels are now available with the Blade 2 giving users better network access options. The increased specifications also means the device is more flexible for use in different environments.

Finally, the Vuzix Blade 2 can be controlled through the built-in touchpad or via voice commands. Vuzix also offers limited controllability through the use of the Vuzix Companion app available on both Android and iOS.
